Riley's antics

Yesterday our sacrament meeting was pretty typical. Derek and Riley passed the sacrament and then sat down with us for the rest of the meeting. The speakers came and went and then it was time for the closing song. The hymn we started to sing was, "Who's on the Lord's side?" I think Riley was inspired by his weekend canoeing trip where he saw everything from bald eagles, rattlesnakes, and owls because when it came time to sing the word "Who?" Riley decided to grace everyone with an owl sound--throughout the whole hymn. I think it was pointless to expect him to obey our "stop it" command when we are fighting to keep a straight face. I hope the Lord will forgive our irreverence. It's so hard to keep a reverent facade when one of your kids is acting up and you actually think it is funny too. I guess you had to be there, but trust me.... we were giggling along with the family in the pew behind us. I hope no one noticed my eyes watering. After the closing prayer I told Kevin, "That's something you would have done."

Tonight Ben dropped a can of pop in our pantry about 5 minutes before our home teacher was to come. We tried to clean up the mess as fast as we could - mopping up and clearing out the pantry (including using the broom), but when he arrived he noticed the pile of soggy paper towels, pantry items, etc. I told him what happened and that we could finish cleaning it up later. After he left Todd sighed and said, "Now I can get the broom", and he walked over to the couch and pulled out the broom from underneath it. I said, "Why was the broom under the couch?" He said, "Well, our home teacher was walking in the door and I had to do something with it so he wouldn't see it!" That was such a relief- what with everything else, at least he didn't see our broom!

Camp Songs

Todd came back from scout camp singing a few camp songs. Although they weren't the same ones we sang at girls camp, they were still silly and funny, and they reminded me of the ones I use to sing. Here's a few of them.
"I know a song, a tuneful song- a tuneful song that's never wrong. I also like to play ping- pong.
PING-pong! PING-pong!

"We are the gopher girls, we really go-fer guys, but they don't go-fer us, I wonder why. {insert gopher sound here}"

And then my favorite one was the Fried Ham song with verses sung relief society style, priesthood style, deacon style, etc. My favorite was young women style- I could never get through that without laughing.
Ah, the memories!!
